DP World's South Container Terminal (SCT) at Jeddah Islamic port has upgraded its Navis terminal operating system (TOS) from SPARCS to N4 3.5 to meet customer service demands and an increase in operational support as cargo volumes expand.
N4 was implemented 'to ensure an advanced and stable system is in place to help address the full spectrum of customer needs,' reported London's Container Management magazine.
DP World's 20-year concession for SCT that handles 1.3 million TEU annually expires in 2019. However, last year the operator said it remains committed to develop Jeddah and would use innovative technological solutions to make it a semi-automated facility.
Speaking on a panel discussion in October 2017, DP World CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said: 'As the first major investor in Jeddah port for almost 20 years now, we are committed to supporting the kingdom's effort to leverage its resources and investment capabilities through the development of Jeddah port.
